If you’ve ever given unrequited love, you know that it be very emotionally taxing. You have so much love to give, but you just can’t seem to convince the guy to love you in return. Not only is this type of situation frustrating, but it can also be quite the blow to your self-esteem. It makes you feel as if the guy you love will never love you back, and let’s be honest, that’s a sad feeling. Here are a few ways you can get the man to love you back without losing your dignity.
Stop trying to convince him you should be together. The more you push someone, the more they will pull away from you. Instead of constantly smothering your dream guy, give him room to actually breath. Don’t constantly text and call him. Give him a chance to see how great you are, and let him pursue you. It’s ok to give a few hints that you’re into him, but don’t overdo it and make him want to run the other way.
Occupy yourself with something other than thinking about him. If you’re spending all of your time spinning your wheels and thinking about the guy, your life will be very boring. Maybe you’re thinking, “There’s nothing boring about him, he’s my everything.” Ok, let’s think about that for a second, even if he proposed to you right now, it would be unhealthy for you to focus your every thought on him. While we’re being honest, let’s admit that if he knew you thought about nothing but him all day long, he’d probably be a little creeped out. How would you be able to focus on your job or school or anything for that matter? Find the balance of living your life, and focusing on him, and I promise you will be much happier.
Play it cool. Sometimes when we’re trying to get someone to fall for us, we tend to make ourselves look rather silly and we end up wishing we’d been a little less gung-ho. The best thing you can do is test the waters and see if he’s returning your advances. You can do subtle things such as playfully touch his arm while during a conversation, and see if he leaves his arm there, or if he hurriedly escapes your grasp.
Another great trick is to jokingly mention him taking you out on a date, if he seems ok with the idea; there is a good chance that he is interested. This is a great trick because you can kind of ask him out while making him think it was his idea in the first place. However, if he tenses up and gets weird at the mention of dating you, then he may not be interested. But the great thing is as far as he could tell, you were only joking, so no harm, no foul!
